Florence's shopfront signage has a timeless elegance.

Intricate lettering adorns weathered storefronts, reflecting the city's rich history and artistic legacy. Each sign, whether for a trattoria or boutique or bus stop is confident and just so, yet appearing totally effortless.

Architectural signage can so often be poorly judged, perhaps being after thoughts by building owners at the end of prolonged builds or the result of over reach of architects who are not trained in typographic design.

But as is the case with most that they try their hands at, the Italians get it right.
